Cumin

Cuminum cyminum

Arovela supplies Cuminum cyminum seeds contract-grown across the Eskişehir, Konya, Karaman, Aksaray and Nevşehir steppes of Central Anatolia for international B2B buyers in the spice, meat-processing, functional-food and ethnic-cuisine industries. Anatolia's continental inland-steppe climate — low rainfall, sharp diurnal temperature swings and clay-loam soils — produces cumin seed with one of the densest essential-oil concentrations on the market (≥2.5%) and the characteristic warm-fruity cuminaldehyde top note that buyers identify as distinctively Anatolian. Compared with Indian, Syrian and Iranian origins, Turkish cumin is positioned in the premium segment thanks to lower aflatoxin risk and consistently higher calibration uniformity. Harvest takes place in late July and early August, after the seed passes the milky stage into full maturity, using combine harvesters; post-cut, seeds are field-dried to 9–11% moisture. On arrival the cleaning line runs a sequenced flow: vibratory screening for foreign seeds, stems and stones; spiral separator for density grading; air aspiration for dust and loose husk; optical colour sorting on Buhler/Satake equipment to reject defective seed; and magnetic/metal detection. Steam sterilisation or controlled UV treatment is applied on request — a 2-log microbial reduction at less than 5% loss of essential oil. Each batch is analysed in an accredited laboratory for: essential-oil content (Clevenger hydrodistillation, ≥2.5%), cuminaldehyde ratio (GC-MS, 20–35%), aflatoxins (B1 <2 ppb, total <4 ppb), ochratoxin A (<5 ppb), Salmonella (absent in 25 g), E. coli (<100 cfu/g), pesticide residues (LC-MS/MS scan covering >450 molecules under EU 396/2005), and heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Hg, As by ICP-MS). Every shipment travels with COA, MSDS, FDA Prior Notice number (for US-bound consignments), Halal certificate and optional Kosher. Processing options: cleaned whole seed; crushed (coarse, for granular spice blends); ground 200 micron (fine, for meat marinades and sausage production); ground 500 micron (medium, for meatballs, falafel mixes, spiced filling lines). Packaging: 25 kg PP woven sacks with PE liner, 25 kg four-wall kraft food-grade, or private-label OPP retail pouches (250 g – 1 kg) for retail customers. B2B segments include global spice houses (McCormick, Schwartz, Kotanyi-style multinationals), industrial meat processors (sucuk, sausage, döner, kebab plants), and ready-meal producers (chili-con-carne, taco seasoning, falafel mix, poultry marinades). MOQ from 500 kg; Incoterms 2020 FOB Izmir, FOB Mersin, CIF to major European/North American ports; one 20-foot container carries 18–22 t, 40-foot 24–26 t.
