Sage
Salvia officinalis
Arovela supplies Salvia officinalis leaves wild-collected and contract-grown across the rocky maquis ecosystems of Türkiye's Aegean and Marmara regions, with cultivation hubs in Çanakkale, Manisa and Aydın. The Anatolian sage belt shares the same genetic haplogroup as classic Dalmatian-origin material from Croatia and is accepted by the international market as an equivalent — and increasingly preferred — alternative thanks to CITES-free status, controlled-harvest planning and consistent volume availability. Essential-oil concentration peaks in the late pre-bloom phase (late May to mid-June); harvest is manual, with selection biased toward young shoots and non-lignified leaves to maximise volatile content. Drying is performed in natural-airflow tunnel dryers at 35–40 °C, shielded from direct sunlight to preserve essential-oil yield (≥1.5%) and the natural alpha-thujone/beta-thujone ratio required by European pharmaceutical monographs (EMA/HMPC Community Herbal Monograph). Each batch is profiled by HPLC for oil constituents, by FT-NIR for moisture (<10%) and ash, by ICP-MS for heavy metals (Pb <3 ppm, Cd <1 ppm, Hg <0.1 ppm, As <2 ppm), and by LC-MS/MS for >450 pesticide/herbicide residues under EU EFSA Regulation 396/2005. Microbiological testing (TAMC <10⁵, TYMC <10⁴, absence of E. coli, Salmonella and S. aureus) conforms to European Pharmacopoeia chapters 5.1.4 and 2.6.31. B2B buyer segments include phytopharmaceutical manufacturers (gargle/mouthwash formulations, digestive-support extracts, natural antiperspirant preparations), premium loose-leaf and tea-bag brands (single-origin blends, organic-certified lines), food processors (meat/fish marinades, blended seasoning mixes, natural antioxidant preservatives leveraging carnosic acid and rosmarinic acid content), and natural-cosmetic formulators (deodorants, toners, scalp treatments). Every shipment is accompanied by certificate of origin, COA, microbiological report and — on request — documentation compatible with FDA-FCE filings or Health Canada NHPD listings. Cut sizes available: whole leaf, cut (4–8 mm), TBC (tea-bag cut, 1–3 mm) and ground (200–500 micron). Packaging is 25 kg four-wall kraft paper sacks with internal polyethylene liner, palletised at 800–1,000 kg per unit; a 20-foot container ships 18–20 t, a 40-foot 24–26 t. Standard Incoterms 2020 routes: FOB Izmir, FOB Tekirdağ, CIF Hamburg/Rotterdam/Felixstowe, DAP central-EU warehouses. EUDR (EU 2023/1115) zero-deforestation due-diligence documentation is included; USDA NOP or EU 2018/848 organic-certified parcels are available from designated cooperatives. MOQ from 100 kg; contract cultivation and bespoke formulation are supported against annual commitments of 5 tonnes or more.
